SCHOOL OF PLANNING AND ARCHITECTURE BHOPAL The School of Planning and Architecture Bhopal (SPA Bhopal) has a spiral shaped water channel forming the backdrop inspired by the ‘Mahadev’ sculpture at the Nilkantha Mahadev Temple in Mandu, symbolising the elements of architecture - Agni (fire), Vayu (air) and Jal (water) using the shapes of ‘S’ for flame, ‘P’ for parachute and ‘A’ for wave, respectively. Its name in English and Devanagari surmount and support the motifs. The colours red, grey and black denotes innovation, energy, passion and dynamism tempered by logic, reason and nature.

These are ensconced by a light blue circular border which has its acronym written eight times. Below the seal on a yellow banner, its motto ‘Pioneering Excellence in Education Since 1958’ is written. The elephant signifies power, strength, unity and wisdom and the lotuses refer to purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty.

It is ensconcing a circle which refers to earth and the cyclical nature of life; the contrasting white and yellow refer to day and night and time; the vertical tilted line refers to the axis of earth; the encompassing square denotes 'Vasthu Purusha Mandala’ and the circle and square denote the basic shapes used in architecture. NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR MINORITIES The emblem of National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has a big tree with six big motifs of blue leaves housing the religious icons of Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity, Sikhism and Islam. The Commission’s name ensconces the tree. The tree represents strength, individuality, expression, calmness, growth, the interconnectedness of everything and perpetuity.

CENTRAL HINDI DIRECTORATE The red colour emblem of Central Hindi Directorate (CHD) is a flower with thirteen petals with two leaves. The petals carry one letter from each of thirteen languages of Bharat. The centre of the flower has two concentric red circles surmounted by its motto in Sanskrit ‘अहं राष्ट्री संगवाणी वसूनां’ meaning ‘I am the Medium for Nation’s Conversation’ and supported by its name in Devanagari. It represents Hindi playing a central role as an Official Language of Bharat.

The colour green denotes freshness, growth, perpetuity and nature. The hexagon is one of the strongest shapes and structures which nature has conceived. NATIONAL BOOK TRUST OF INDIA The red circular emblem of National Book Trust of India (NBT) has an open book placed inside a circle from which the tree of knowledge grows. The border is inscribed with its name in Devanagari and its motto in Sanskrit ‘यत्र विश्वं भवत्येकनीडम्’ (22.9, Yajur Veda) meaning ‘Where the Whole World Meets in a Single Nest’. Sri Yantra represents the goddess in her form of ‘Shri Lalitha’ or ‘Tripura Sundari’. Four of the triangles point upwards, representing ‘Shiva’ or the masculine. Five of these triangles point downwards, representing ‘Shakti’ or the feminine. Thus, the Sri Yantra also represents the union of masculine and feminine Divine.
