INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SPACE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) situated at Thiruvananthapuram is a Deemed University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. It was formally inaugurated on September 14, 2007. The circular emblem of the university has an aerial view of earth bearing its motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्या सन्धिः प्रवचनम् सन्धानम्’ (Hymn 5, Siksha Valli, Part 1 Taittiriya Upanishad, Yajur Veda) meaning ‘Education is the conjunction between the acharya or teacher, the base element and the disciple the secondary element. Teaching acts as a catalyst’. The emblem is superimposed by its acronym developed into a monogram in glowing cyan colour, in which the ‘i’s are treated like humans and the ‘s’ is treated as trajectory of a rocket with a rocket at the bottom and a satellite on the top and the letter ‘t’ is treated a s plus mark or a locator.
