AAM AADMI PARTY The birth of the AAP on October 2, 2012 opened the doors for common citizens, who had been watching the decline of the country’s politics and governance from the sidelines, to become a part of a political party. The AAP pioneered the crowd-sourced model of electoral fundraising in India with small donations running the party right from the beginning. With the promise to end corruption from the system and put forth a model of alternative politics, the AAP made its grand entry. On August 1, 2013 the party was allotted an election symbol by the Election Commission. A statement issued by the party stated, “With this, the party has crossed the second milestone (after party’s registration) on its way to cleaning up the polity of the country. With the broom, which symbolises dignity of labour, the party hopes to clean the filth which has permeated our government and our legislature. The country needs a clean sweep of its corrupted mainstream political parties.”
