Image
NIZAM’S INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES The insignia of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) has a number of motifs housed in a circle. The motif of heart forms the background on which the Staff of Hermes or Caduceus with a pair of entwined serpents; a x-ray of the human brain and a graph of echocardiography are placed. These are ensconced by a circular border, which carries the name and place of the university separated by two crosses. At the bottom below the seal on a banner its motto in Telugu ‘సర్వే సంతు నిరామయాః’ (35.51, Garuḍa Purāṇa) meaning ‘May no One Suffer from Illness’ is inscribed. The Staff of Hermes represents medicine and medical service; the heart denotes metaphorically the service from heart; the x-ray and the graph denote the medical technology and their use in diagnosis and treatment.
