DEFENCE INSTITUTE OF ADVANCE TECHNOLOGY The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), as it is known today, came into being as the Institute of Armament Studies in 1952 in the CME campus. In 1967, the Institute was renamed as Institute of Armament Technology (IAT), which moved to its present location at Girinagar, Pune. In the year 2000, the Institute acquired the status of a Deemed to be University. The emblem of the university has a wheel with twelve spokes surrounded by a six-pointed star supported by a traditional lamp with a backdrop of the colours of the triservices are ensconced by a grey circular border which bears its name. It has a decorative lotus border and is crested by the Ashoka Lion, which is the national emblem of India. This motif is supported by a pair of golden laurels on sides and at the bottom with a banner.
