KAMESHWAR SINGH DARBHANGA SANSKRIT VISHWAVIDYALAYA Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University (KSDSU) is located in Darbhanga and it was established on January 26, 1961 with the benevolence of Maharajadhiraj Dr. Sir Kameshwar Singh. The emblem of the university has a circle with the motifs of a mountain range, rivers flowing down, fish in the rivers, a veena, palm leaf manuscript, a banyan tree, a lotus, a sanskrit tagline ‘स्वतः प्रमाणम् परतः प्रमाणम्’ (Madhaviya Digvijay, 8/6,7,8) meaning ‘Self Evidence is Later Evidence’ and a motto in Sanskrit. All these are ensconced in a circular border on which the name of the university is inscribed in Devanagari. KAMESHWAR SINGH DARBHANGA SANSKRIT UNIVERSITY The Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit Vishvavidyalay was established under the Act, 1960 was established on January 26, 1961. The university became Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University in 1990. Its orange circular emblem has peepal tree topped with a slogan in Sanskrit ‘स्वतः प्रमाणं परतः प्रमाणम्’ meaning ‘Self-evidence is Beyond Evidence’, supported by a veena; a lotus blooming in a river with fish; mountains with flowing rivers and shining sky in the backdrop is ensconced in a circular border, on which its name is written in Devanagari. Above the veena the motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘ब्रह्मस्ते सवितर्बोधैर्यनम्’ is placed. Light denotes the way forward and path; mountains denote the immeasurable and unfathomable; peepal tree denotes vision and enlightenment, flowing rivers denote life and duty; fish denote abundance and fertility; veena denotes Goddess Saraswati and lotus denotes purity and knowledge.
