BABA FARID UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) was established in the memory of great Sufi Saint Baba Farid by the Punjab Government under an Act passed by the Legislature of the State of Punjab in July, 1998. The emblem of the university has a portrait of Baba Farid circumscribed by a thick green border carrying its year of establishment. It is supported by a pair of Caduceus or the Staff of Hermes with a pair of entwined serpents and wings representing medicine and medical profession. Below the circle on a green banner its name is written in Punjabi. Below these its place is written in Punjabi and its name and place in English. Surmounting the emblem is its motto in Punjabi ‘ਅਉਖਦ ਆਏ ਰਾਸਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਆਪਿ ਖਲੋਇਆ’ (Phunhay Guru Arjan Dev, (M 5) (23):2 - Guru Granth Sahib: Part 1363 pages. 14) meaning ‘The Medicines are Effective, when the Lord Himself stands in their Midst’.
