RAJIV GANDHI UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES The emblem of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) is an expression of the confluence of both Eastern and Western Health Sciences. It has a staff with entwined a pair of serpents and wings, symbolising Gods of Health - Hermes and Mercury, is adapted as a symbol of medicine and medical sciences. The pot atop the wand is Amrutha Kalasham of Dhanvanthri, the father of all health sciences. The wings represent the human soul called Hamsa. The rising sun symbolises knowledge and enlightenment. The pair of twigs of leaves symbolise olive branches Vanaspathi (Aushadi) held in the hands of Dhanvanthri. The lamp at the bottom depicts human energy or kundalini. The motto inscribed at the bottom in Sanskrit ‘देवहितम यदायुः’ (1.89.8, Rig Veda) meaning ‘May we Live the Full Span of Our Lives allotted by God in Perfect Health’.
