INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY TIRUPATI The logo of Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IITT) shows two layers of elements, the text in the foreground and a series of images in the background. The text layer carries the acronym and the name of the institute. Elements in the background are abstract images showing three human faces and an icon of the ‘trithiya nethra’ or the vertical third eye. These graphically simplified elements are rendered using the combination of red and white vertical lines or bands inspired from the practice of adoring the walls of temple premises in South India. The ‘people’ engaged in the conversation depicted here are inspired from a scene from traditonal Indian spaces of learning called ‘Gurukul' in which Guru and Shishya are conversing about something which is of paramount significance.
