MAHANAGAR TELEPHONE NIGAM LIMITED Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) was set up on April 1, 1986 by the Government of India to upgrade the quality of telecom services, expand the telecom network, introduce new services and to raise revenue for telecom development needs of India’s key metros - Delhi, the political capital and Mumbai, the business capital of India. In the past 17 years, the company has taken rapid strides to emerge as India ’ s leading and one of Asia’s largest telecom operating companies. MTNL has been given Navratna status in 1997 and was listed in New York Stock Exchange in 2001. Besides having a strong financial base, MTNL has achieved a market share of approximately thirteen percent of the Indian telecommunication network with a customer base of over 4.74 million lines. The Government of India currently holds 56.25 percent stake in the company. Its green coloured logo has M, T, N and L depicted in the form of a dialing telephone with buttons. Its tagline is ‘
