DOORDARSHAN 1959 Doordarshan (DD) is an autonomous public service broadcaster founded by the Government of India, which is one of two divisions of Prasar Bharati. It was established on September 15, 1959. DD provides television, online and mobile services throughout metropolitan and regional India, as well as overseas, through the satellite network. Devashis Bhattacharyya is the creator of the ‘DD eye’, Doordarshan’s iconic symbol since its inception. The DD symbol was accompanied by a signature tune given by sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar.
