TAMILNADU VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) was started in 1876 as an Agricultural School in Chennai and became Madras Veterinary College on October 1, 1903. Established on September 20, 1989, TANUVAS is an autonomous institution governed by its Board of Management. The emblem of the university has a hexagon pivoted horizontally, intercepting a brown circle forming a motif of a cattle has the Staff of Hermes entwined with a pair of snakes topped by a torch and sun; an open book and a microscope in a yellowish green background and below a band of blue tones resembling water. These are ensconced in three concentric circles with blue border lines. One of the circles has its name inscribed in Tamil and English.
