SRI PADMAVATI MAHILA VISHVAVIDYALAYAM Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMV) (University for Women) was founded in the year 1983 by Sri N. T. Rama Rao, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh under the Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam Act of 1983, which came into force on April 14, 1983. The emblem of the university has a yellow colour shield with red border has a lotus supporting an open book gear wheel and rising sun. This is placed in a bluish background and supported by a pair of green swans and banner carrying its motto in Telugu ‘జ్ఞానం నిర్మోచనం స్త్రీణామ్’ meaning ‘Emancipation of Women through Acquisition of Knowledge’. All these are ensconced by a white border with blue decorative outline carries the name of the university and place.
