THE SANSKRIT COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY

Image
THE SANSKRIT COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY The foundation of Sanskrit College was laid during the British regime based on a recommendation by HT James Prinsep and Thomas Babington Macaulay. John Paskal Larkins Esquire laid the first foundation stone of the college in 1824. The institution rose into prominence and glory during the Principal ship of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar. The Sanskrit College became The Sanskrit College and University (TSCU) June 15, 2016. The emblem of the university in saffron or orange colour has a conch, which is blowing in an vertical ellipse background and supported by a pedestal on which its name and year of establishment is inscribed. The conch or shankha is considered sacred in Hinduism as the emblem of Lord Vishnu and Buddhism. It is also known as ‘panchajanya’ and used for spreading the message and for invocation. The colour orange symbolises freshness, youthfulness, energy, adaptability, stimulation, kindness, ambition, enthusiasm and strength.
