SRIMANTA SANKARADEVA UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati, Assam, India was established in 2009. The emblem of the university has a caduceus or the staff of Hermes, depicted as a stick with a pair of wings, entwined by two snakes; the map of the State of Assam and an open book placed in a brown toned circle. This is ensconced by a white border with black and brown outlines. It carries the name of the university and is supported by a pair of traditional lamps. The year of establishment of the university is also placed on the border. On a banner at the bottom of the emblem ‘Guwahati, Assam’ is written. The emblem is supported by a pair of laurels. The staff of Hermes denotes the medical profession; the open book signifies knowledge and wisdom; traditional lamps signify light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity and laurels signify victory, accomplishment, honour, recognition,...
