NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING
NATIONAL COUNCIL FOR EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND TRAINING |
The circular emblem of National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has a trio of intertwined swans crested by its motto in Sanskrit which is an extract from the Kathopanishad ‘विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते’, (Shloka 11, Ishopanishad) meaning ‘Immortality is Gained from Learning’ and supported by its initials at the bottom. The letter ‘E’ of its initials is depicted as a pair of books. The design is said to be based on a relic from the third century BCE, which was found in Raichur district, Karnataka. The swans symbolise research and development, training and extension mandates of the NCERT. Swans are sacred and are symbols of knowledge, education, grace and beauty.
