RANCHI UNIVERSITY Ranchi University came into existence on July 12, 1960 as an autonomous institution as it was carved out of erstwhile Bihar University. It underwent tetra-furcation with creation of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag (1992), Nilambar Pitambar University, Medini Nagar (2009), Kolhan University, Chaibasa (2009) and Dr Shyama Prasad Mukharjee University, Ranchi (2019). The emblem of the university has an open book, which carries the motifs of mountains and river; laboratory equipment for physics; a hand holding a ring and forest of trees on its pages. These are ensconced in a blue circle. This are circumscribed by its name in Devanagari, a pair of laurels and its motto in Sanskrit ‘तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु’ (Shanti Mantra, Taittriya Upanishad) meaning ‘May the Study of Both of us be Brilliant’. All these are placed above a blue colour flower petals of which have opened and spread. The open book symbolises knowledge, wisdom and education; the mountains and the river rep
