NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNICAL TEACHERS TRAINING AND RESEARCH, KOLKATA NITTTR Kolkata was the first among four such institutes (the other three being at Chandigarh, Bhopal and Chennai) established by the Department of Education, MHRD, Government of India, as fully centrally funded autonomous institutions for providing pre and in-service training to the teachers and staff of Degree and Diploma level training institutions and also for conducting various activities related to quality improvement of the technical education system of the country. Its circular emblem has a lamp in the middle ensconced by a bolt, which forms the centre of a wheel with eight spokes. Wheel symbolises motion and activity. The wheel has its acronym and place written in white on a blue border. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘लोकोहितार्थम् ज्ञानार्जनम्’ meaning ‘Acquiring Knowledge for the Benefit of the World’ is placed below the wheel. The emblem is supported by two pairs of green leaves.
