BANASTHALI VIDYAPITH Shri Shantabai Shiksha Kutir was started in October 1935 in the mud huts provided by the Jiwan Kutir, with six girls. The name ‘Banasthali Vidyapith’ was adopted in 1943 and undergraduate courses were introduced. The institution was granted the status of a deemed university in 1983 by the UGC. The blue circular emblem has the portrait of the founder’s daughter Shantabai with a halo holding a water pot amidst a fire. It is ensconced in a circular border which carries its name, year of establishment and its motto in Sanskrit ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ meaning ‘That which Liberates is Knowledge’ which forms part of a verse appearing in Vishnu-Purana (1.19.41). The colour blue signifies serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.
