It is named after the Satavahana dynasty that ruled this region. The emblem is designed incorporating the inscriptions on various coins and objects of archeological importance found during the excavations carried out in the district, which represent the ancient culture of Karimnagar district. The red emblem of the university has six upward facing triangles arranged as an inverse pyramid symbolises a peacock.
