SATAVAHANA UNIVERSITY In June 2008, the Postgraduate Centre of Osmania and Kakatiya Universities were upgraded as Satavahana University. It is named after the Satavahana dynasty that ruled this region. The emblem is designed incorporating the inscriptions on various coins and objects of archeological importance found during the excavations carried out in the district, which represent the ancient culture of Karimnagar district. TAMIL UNIVERSITY The Tamil University was established at Thanjavur, by the Government of Tamil Nadu on September 15, 1981 under the provision of the Tamil University Act No.9 of 1982 and was recognized by the University Grants Commission on June 11,1985. The idea of a separate university for Tamil language was mooted in 1925 and took shape in 1981 under Dr. M. G. Ramachandran. YASHWANTRAO CHAVAN MAHARASHTRA OPEN UNIVERSITY  Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) was established on July 1, 1989. The red emblem of the university has six upward facing triangles arranged as an inverse pyramid symbolises a peacock. Peacock is the ‘vahana’ or vehicle of Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of learning, knowledge and wisdom. It came into existence by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act, 2007 and came into action in July 2008.
