Kameshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University (KSDSU) is located in Darbhanga and it was established on January 26, 1961 with the benevolence of Maharajadhiraj Dr. Sir Kameshwar Singh. The emblem of the university has a circle with the motifs of a mountain range, rivers flowing down, fish in the rivers, a veena, palm leaf manuscript, a banyan tree, a lotus, a sanskrit tagline ‘स्वतः प्रमाणम् परतः प्रमाणम्’ (Madhaviya Digvijay, 8/6,7,8) meaning ‘Self Evidence is Later Evidence’ and a motto in Sanskrit. All these are ensconced in a circular border on which the name of the university is inscribed in Devanagari. The mountains symbolise constancy, permanence, motionlessness and the peak spiritually signifies the state of absolute consciousness; the rivers symbolise life, fertility, freedom, a path and the passage of time; the fish symbolise rebirth, fertility, the unconscious or higher self, luck, change, health and feelings; the lotus symbolises purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the palm leaf manuscripts symbolise the traditional and historical knowledge; the veena symbolises a reminder to tune one's heart and mind to live in harmony with others and the world and the tree symbolises strength, individuality and expression, calmness, growth and the interconnectedness of everything.
