NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, INDIA The National Academy of Sciences, India (NSAI) has a traditional lamp supported by its year of establishment placed within a circular design of sixteen flames placed on an orange background. The name of the organisation in red Devanagari surmounts and supports the motif. All these are ensconced in a blue circular border, which is inscribed by its name in sans serif white text. The traditional lamp refers to light, illumination, awakening, devotion, purity, guidance, protection, hope and prosperity to  and the sixteen flames refer to victory of light over darkness of ignorance from all sixteen directions, dispelling of negativity, profound purity and energy, positivism and completeness and wholeness.

The fourteen lamps refer to the ‘Panchabhoota’, representing the five elements of nature and the supernatural existence that may have had a past. The name of the Academy and its year  of inception circumscribe the motifs. All these are placed within a circle with a pair of outlines. The lotus represents purity, enlightenment, transformation, personal growth, rebirth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty and the sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity.

It has a five petalled lotus spread crested by ‘पद्म’ and supported ‘श्री’ is ensconced by an outline design based on square intersecting with rectangles in obverse and the National Emblem of the Lion Capital ensconced by an identical square based outline on the reverse. The lotus with five petals is a symbol of beauty and refers to the absolute purity, honesty, rebirth, self-regeneration and enlightenment. It also refers to divinity, creation and spiritual power.

It has a six petalled lotus spread crested by ‘पद्म’ and supported ‘भूषण’ is ensconced by an outline design based on square intersecting with rectangles in obverse and the National Emblem of the Lion Capital ensconced by an identical square based outline on the reverse. The lotus with six petals refers to the Svadishthana Chakra or the Sacral Chakra refers to the negative qualities of anger, hatred, jealousy, cruelty, desire and pride, which are to be overcome and balanced to attain spiritual growth. It means overcoming lower desires and emotions to reach a higher state of being.

BHARAT RATNA The highest civilian honour of Bharat Ratna produced in the Government of India Mint, Kolkata  is made of bronze and is in the shape of peepal leaf with platinum rim carrying the motif of a sunburst in platinum and inscribed with ‘भारत रत्न’ in obverse and on the reverse bears the motif of Lion Capital, the National Emblem supported by the National Motto ‘सत्यमेव जयते’. The leaf of peepal tree (Ficus Religiosa), bodhi tree, sacred fig or ashwattha tree which is considered sacred refers to enlightenment, peace, wisdom, longevity and divinity and the sunburst refers to eternity, divine right, halo, energy, vitality and new day.
