Its motto in Sanskrit ‘सूर्य सदैव’ and ‘Sun for Ever’ is written at the bottom. The colours yellow and orange refers to sun, solar energy and light, universal prosperity and path for growth.

It is named after Bharat Ratna Rajarshi Purusottam Das Tandon ji, an illustrious son of Mother India. GURU GHASIDAS VISHWAVIDYALAYA Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya (GGV), is a Central University of India, located in Bilaspur Chhattisgarh State, established under Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009.
