SURVEY OF INDIA

The Survey of India (SoI) has a map of the subcontinemt of India with grid lines placed inside a circular border inscribed with its name in Devanagari and English. It is crested by the National Emblem and supported by a banner inscribed with its motto in Sanskrit ‘ आ सेतु हिमाचलम्’ meaning ‘From the Bridge (of Rameswaram) to the Himalayas’ and its year of inception. A lotus is placed above the banner referring to  purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty.

At the bottom, a banner inscribed with the motto of the college in Tamil ‘‘கற்றனைத் தூறும் அறிவு’ (Thiruvalluvar, 396, Thirukkural) meaning ‘Knowledge Grows As Much As One Learns’ is inscribed is placed on the seal. Athiyaman and Avvaiyar refer to history and heritage; the book, sun and the humans refer to education and educational achievement; the tree refers to nature, sustenance and growth; the computer refers to technology; and the dam refers to the local landmark.
