PADMA BHUSHAN

The third highest civilian honour of Padma Bhushan (Lotus Decoration) medal produced in the Government of India Mint, Kolkata is made of toned bronze. It has a six petalled lotus spread crested by ‘पद्म’ and supported ‘भूषण’ is ensconced by an outline design based on square intersecting with rectangles in obverse and the National Emblem of the Lion Capital ensconced by an identical square based outline on the reverse. The lotus with six petals refers to the Svadishthana Chakra or the Sacral Chakra refers to the negative qualities of anger, hatred, jealousy, cruelty, desire and pride, which are to be overcome and balanced to attain spiritual growth. It means overcoming lower desires and emotions to reach a higher state of being.
