The blue circular seal of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) has a lotus surmounted by a rising sun and supported by its motto in Sanskrit sloka ‘तमसो मा  ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ build a sense of conviction that knowledge has the power to drag us out of ignorance. The name of the Academy and its year  of inception circumscribe the motifs. All these are placed within a circle with a pair of outlines. The lotus represents purity, enlightenment, transformation, personal growth, rebirth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty and the sun represents life, energy, power, positivity, illumination, light and clarity.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
