ZOROASTRIANISM
ZOROASTRIANISM |
Zoroastrianism is one the oldest religions in the
world and one of the first monotheist religions. It was founded by Zoroaster
and it believes in one God, Ahura Mazda. There are very few Zoroastrians in the
world today but it still holds an important place. A large part of their
population is divided between Iran and India. The Zoroastrians living in India
are called Parsis. Zoroastrianism believes in one god, Ahura Mazda who is
Omniscient, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Impossible for a normal human being to
conceive, Unchanging, The Creator of everything and The Source of all the
goodness and happiness in the world. Zoroastrians are not fire worshippers as is
generally believed. Fire is an important symbol in their faith. Fire or light
represents the divine light of the Ahura Mazda. Therefore, when a Zoroastrian
prays, he prays in the direction of fire or light. There are ever dwindling
numbers of Zoroastrians left in the world. They primarily reside in India and
Iran. There are only about 2,00,000 Zoroastrians left and their population
continues to decline steadily. The head in the symbol Faravahar has a soul of
human and wisdom of age, the ring means loyalty and faithfulness, the circle
stands for emergence of immortal soul, the three rows of tail wings mean bad
thoughts, bad words and bad deeds, the three rows of feathered wings mean good
reflection, good words and good deed and the hand is reaching for heaven and
higher ideals. The whole symbol is inspired from Assyrian ‘Assur’
.
