METRO RAILWAY, KOLKATA
Metro Railway, Kolkata is the first underground Metro in India. It extends from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash Metro station near Garia, on the busy North-South axis of Kolkata over a length of 31.365 Kms with 26 Stations and 15.70 Kms of underground section. The first line of about 3.4 km between Esplanade and Bhowanipur in India was completed on October 24, 1984 and thrown open for the public. The last leg was opened on 23rd February 2021 for commercial operation from Noapara to Dakshineswar. Metro Railway, Kolkata, is the owner and operator of Kolkata Metro, the oldest metro system of India. On December 29, 2010, it became the 17th zone of the Indian Railways, operated by the Ministry of Railways. Its emblem in dark red colour has two moving arrows in white facing opposite directions, symbolising to-and-fro travel. The logo as a whole looks like a metro coach on the move.
