DR. SHYAMA PRASAD MUKHERJEE UNIVERSITY The emblem of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU) is placed on a 32 petal lotus flower spread in a circle. The motifs of a triangle intersecting a circle houses an open book on which the year of its establishment is written. The national emblem Ashoka Chakra surmounts these motifs and a pair of laurels support them. All these are placed in a circle and the circle has a border with red outlines. The border carries the motto in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ and the name of the university in Devanagari. The lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the laurels denote ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the open book represents knowledge, education, learning and wisdom; the colour red symbolises passion, power, strength, courage, determinat...
