Its logotype in steel blue comprising of a circular monogram in and text has a two ‘S’s create a symbol like that of bent TMT bars and the name ‘Sumangala’ in sans serif italic, gives a forward-looking feel. The letters ‘S’ and ‘G’ have their top end strokes been innovatively extended and pointed to give a feel of connectivity and balance. Below the name, the tagline ‘We understand steel’ is place in black colour.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. Its circular insignia in gold and blue has the traditional symbol of the Caduceus to represent medicine.
