The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy(SVP NPA) was established on September 15, 1948. The primary purpose of the academy is to prepare leaders for the Indian Police, who will lead/command the force with courage, uprightness, dedication and a strong sense of service to the people. The NPA, trains officers of the Indian Police Service - IPS, who have been selected through an All India based Civil Services Examination. The academy is affiliated to Osmania University for conducting courses on police subjects for IPS officers. Its emblem has a star crested with Ashoka lion pillar and supported by a pair of laurels in gold. Its motto in Sanskrit 'सत्यं सेवा सुरक्षणम्' meaning 'Truth Service Safety' is written on a blue banner below the motif. Its name is written in Devanagri and English on a blue banner with golden outlines at the bottom of the emblem.
