The Government of Karnataka has notified the establishment of Bengaluru North University by trifurcating the erstwhile Bangalore University through its Gazette Notification on August 13, 2015 and was inaugurated on September 21, 2017. This is a State University located in Kolar in Karnataka. The emblem of the university depicts the importance of the jurisdictional area through its geographical features, scientific development and the rhythm of people’s lives. The circular emblem has three concentric circles, which represent the conscious, subconscious and dreams. The outermost circle in yellow represents the universe, power, intellect, honour, enlightenment, timelessness, positivity and the cyclic movement of life; the cyan circle represents the earth and the blue circle represents the university simplicity, purity, openness and optimism. The pictures used in the logo are in grey colour and they represent power and magic. The tower of the Kolar gold mines and the mine shaft elevator represents the Kolar Gold Fields, science and technology. The motif of Nandi on the stone pedestal represents Chikkaballapur in particular. The steps of the pedestal represent the secure foundation of the ideals of the university. Atop the first circle is a Kempegowda tower representing Bengaluru; the silkworm cocoons represent the economy of the region; the golden colour stands for wealth, success and knowledge and motifs of the mango, grapes, jasmine and rose represent the varied agricultural and horticultural patterns of the region. This logo was designed by renowned artist Krishna Raichur with the ideation of Dr. K. Y. Narayanaswamy. Its motto in Kannada ‘ಅರಿವು ಅಂತರಗಂಗೆ’ meaning ‘Undercurrent of Wisdom’ is placed in the innermost circle (BNU).
