India Ports Global Ltd (IPGL) was primarily formed to participate in Shahid Behesthi Port, Chabahar development project with the objective of providing an alternative and reliable access route to landlocked Afghanistan and Central Asian Countries. With the above objective in mind, a SPV comprising a joint shareholding of Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Deendayal Port Trust was incorporated on January 22, 2015. Thereafter the Company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Sagarmala Development Company Limited. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for development of Shahid Behesthi Port, Chabahar was signed on May 6, 2015 and the Contract was signed on May 23, 2016. India Ports Global Chabahar Free Zone (IPGCFZ), Indian SPV at Chabahar was incorporated in Iran in June 2018. Its office at Chabahar was inaugurated on December 24, 2018. The physical take-over of the terminal area, cargo handling equipment and Office building was completed by December 29, 2018. IPGCFZ commenced its first cargo operation in Iran on December 30, 2018. The IGPL’s logo has a globe placed in a circular banner, which carries the name of the company and ‘Chabahar Free Zone’. On the globe a ship is shown in the backdrop of a port with a crane. This is supported by a stroke of Indian tricolour.
