The mission aims to provide accessible, affordable and quality healthcare to the rural population, especially the vulnerable groups. The focus area of the mission is on establishing a fully functional, community owned and decentralised health delivery system with inter-sectoral convergence at all levels to ensure simultaneous action on a wide range of determinants of health such as water, sanitation, education, nutrition, social and gender equality. The goals of NRHM include Reduction in Infant mortality rate and maternal mortality ratio; universal access to public health services for women’s health, child health, water, hygiene, sanitation and nutrition and prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases, including locally endemic diseases. The red and yellow logo of NRHM depicts a family of a man and a woman, along with a child. The name of the scheme is given in English and राष्ट्रीय ग्रामीण स्वास्थ्य मिशन is written in Devanagari script.
