Shri Rameshwar Thakur, the then Governor of Andhra Pradesh played a key role in establishing the vedic university. It was expected to be established according to the decision taken by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Board in 1992. The proposal culminated July 22, 2006, Governor and the Chancellor inaugurated the courses at Sri Venkateswara Vedic University (SVVU), at Dharmagiri. The emblem of the university is blue circle with white border and blue outlines. The main motif is the The Srivaishnava Urdhva Pundra alternatively referred to as Thiruman, Thirunamam, Sricharanam or Namam is the tilak worn by the adherents of Sri Vaishnavism. The figure drawn is representative of the feet of Narayana with the goddess Lakshmi featured in the middle. This is supported by the ‘ॐ’ (Om) is the mystic syllable, considered the most sacred mantra in Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism. It appears at the beginning and end of most Sanskrit recitations, prayers, and texts. On The white border, the name of the university is written on top and its motto in Sanskrit ‘सं श्रुतेन  गमेमहि’ meaning ‘Let us go with what we have heard’ is written at the bottom. The motto is a quote taken from Atharva Veda 1.1.4.
