SRI CHANDRASEKHARENDRA SARASWATHI VISWA MAHAVIDYALAYA

Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya (SCSVMV), formed under the aegis of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Charitable Trust in 1993, is located in Enathur near Kanchipuram. The orange and blue emblem of the university has an illuminous blessing palm symbolises the vast knowledge he transformed to generations. The joining of the thumb and forefinger denotes the merger of brahma and jeeva (the advaita philosophy), which can also be interpreted as integration of the ancient Vedic knowledge with the modern scientific knowledge. The vyasapeetha (Wooden pedestal for holding books) and the grantha (Palm leaves) represent ghatika sthanam (place of knowledge) the eighteen vidyasthanams and sixty four traditional arts and culture. The motto written in Sanskrit ‘वन्दे सद्दगुरुं चन्द्रशेकरम्' means ‘I Adore the Virtuous Preceptor Guru Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Maha Swamigal’.

PARAVANI The Paravani, Mayil, Mayura or the peacock is the vahana or vehicle of the Lord Karthikeya, Murugan, Subrahmanya, Skanda, Kumara, Saravana, Arumukha, Devasenapati, Shanmukha, Kathirvela, Guha or Swaminatha. The legend has it that the demon king Surapadman, with the boon he received from the gods had become invincible. He believed that he was immortal and began tormenting all across the universe. Lord Kartikeya confronted the Surapadman and he evaded the Lord’s attacks. The demon transformed himself into a large tree near Tiruchendur. Lord Kartikeya using his Vel, the divine spear struck the tree and split Surapadman into two halves. The demon sought forgiveness from the Lord and transformed the halves into Mayil or peacock and a rooster.
