Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ananthapuramu, had its beginning as a Postgraduate Centre of Sri Venkateswara University in the year 1967-68. It was conferred the status of an affiliating University in the year 1988. The insignia of the university is a shield crested by the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Maha Vishnu. The shield is divided into four parts in green white, orange and blue denoting the tricolour of the national flag. The bigger blue portion has the motif of the stone chariot of Hampi, representing the beauty and the artistic perfection of Krishnadevaraya's empire. The green portion holds an elephant, signifying power, strength, unity and wisdom; the white portion holds a lotus, denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty and the orange portion holds a Nandi, the symbol of Shiva , which represents power, virility, joy, and delight, as well as a controlled potential for destructiveness. Its motto quoted from Isa Upanishad written in Telugu ‘విద్యాయా అమృత మస్నుతే’ means ‘One Attains Immortal Wisdom Through Knowledge’ on a yellow banner.
