Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women (AIHSHEW), Coimbatore was established as an aided college by Padma Bhushan Dr. T. S. Avinashilingam under the auspices of the Avinashilingam Education Trust in 1957. Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas, doyen of Home Science nurtured the institution. The emblem of the university is a traditional ‘kuthuvilakku’, a veena, a lotus and a book are placed in front of a traditionally decorated house ensconced by a circular line around which the name of the university is written. At the bottom the motto of the university ‘Seek and Ye Shall Find’ is written. The kuthuvilakku symbolises knowledge. Its shape forms the image of a human in ‘dhyana mudra’, the base symbolising yogic sitting posture, the stem denotes the erect body, the top denotes the face and the five wicks denote the five elements (panchabhutas). Veena symbolises the Goddess of learning, Saraswat, who symbolises knowledge and wisdom. It signifies positivity and divine blessings. The lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the book symbolises knowledge and wisdom and the house with traditional decorations symbolises the origin of the university as a college of home science.

NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY KURUKSHETRA National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra, NIT Kurukshetra was founded in 1963 as Regional Engineering College Kurukshetra. It was rechristened as National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra on June 26, 2002. Its brown colour emblem is a gear wheel, in whose border the name of the institute and the place is written. In a circle within the gear a bow and an upward pointing arrow is placed. The bow radiates energy. The design, which has been selected as the logo for Aadhaar, is a sun in red and yellow, with a fingerprint traced across its centre. The logo effectively communicates the vision for Aadhaar.
