Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (AVV) is a multidisciplinary research university having six campuses spread across the States of Kerala, Tamilnadu and Karnataka with seven campuses at Amaravati, Amritapuri, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Kochi and Mysuru and NCR Delhi (Faridabad). The emblem of the university has six petalled lotus houses lotus standing water crested by a conch with a background of rising sun and topped by a Sanskrit quote ‘त्यागेनैके अमृतत्वमानशुः’ meaning ‘Immortality by Sacrifice’. Below this on a banner, the name of the sponsoring organisation ‘Mata Amritanandamayi Math’ is written. At the bottom its motto a quote from Chapter 4, Verse 39 of Bhagavad Gita ‘श्रद्धावान् लभते ज्ञानम्’ is written in Sanskrit, meaning ‘The Believer Attains Knowledge’. The lotus symbolises purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty; the conch or shankha is considered sacred in Hinduism as the emblem of Lord Vishnu and Buddhism. It is also known as ‘panchajanya’ and used for spreading the message and for invocation and the rising sun signifies light, universal prosperity and path for growth.
