BIRLA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
BIRLA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY |
The Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) was established in 1955 at Mesra by B. M. Birla. Its emblem in red and grey colours has the structure of an atom supported by an open yellow book ensconced in a gear wheel placed in a red circle with grey border line. The red circle bears the name of the institute in Devanagari and English along with its motto in Sanskrit ‘सा विद्या या विमुक्तये’ meaning ‘That which Liberates is Knowledge’ which forms part of a verse appearing in Vishnu-Purana (1.19.41). The atomic structure and the gear wheel represent the sciences and engineering fields of study respectively. The open book signifies knowledge and wisdom and the colour red passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration and the colour grey signifies strength, longevity, unemotional, detached, balanced and impartial, power, influence, wisdom and intelligence.
