BHAGAT PHOOL SINGH MAHILA VISHWAVIDYALAYA |
In 1936 Bhagat Phool Singh Ji started a gurukul for girls in Bhainswal Kalan with three girls. The gurukul grew in size, stature and reputation with time and in November 2006, the Haryana Legislative Assembly passed a Legislative Notification No. 31/2006 making the gurukul a full fledged State University. Bhagat Phool Singh was a Patwari who turned into a social reformer under the influence of Arya Samaj. His daughter, Subhashini Devi, who inherited the responsibility helped the gurukul grow into a number of professional colleges for women. In November 2006, the Mahasabha Gurukul Vidyapeeth in Khanpur Kalan was turned into Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya (BPSMV). The emblem of the university has motifs of silhouetted faces of four women in red, orange and tones of yellow, supported by a rising sun turned ninety degrees to its right on an orange circle. The tilted sun also looks like giving voice to the women. Its name is written around the circle on top and its motto ‘Empowering Women with Education’ is written at the bottom. The silhouettes showing women radiating with life and energy through education. The colour orange signifies energy, vitality, creativity, inspiration, joy and happiness and the colour red signifies passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration.
