CHAUDHARY CHARAN SINGH UNIVERSITY
Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU) was earlier known as Meerut University was established in 1965. The emblem of the university has a shield with an inverted triangle on which a torch and an open book is placed. The torch is surmounted by its name and place; on the pages of the book quotations from Tagore’s Gitanjali and Mahatma Gandhi are written and the year of establishment is placed on both sides of the torch. The name of the university is placed above the shield. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘यत्र सत्यस्य परमं निधानम्’ (Mundaka Upanishad 3.1.6) meaning ‘The Highest Treasure Attained by Truth’ is inscribed on a yellow banner below the shield. The shield symbolises protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the open book symbolises knowledge, education and wisdom and the torch is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power.
