MAGADH UNIVERSITY |
Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, established on March 1, 1962 is one of the largest universities in Bihar. This university is a brainchild of Shri Satyendra Narayan Singh and was built on the land donated by the Mahant of Bodh-Gaya math Shri Satanand Giri in 1964. The emblem of the university is a rectangle in portrait form in red colour holding the motifs of Buddha vihara in the backdrop of a lotus holding the image of Bodhi tree and supported on both sides by a pair of wheels. Its motto in Sanskrit ‘अमृतं तु विद्या’ meaning ‘Knowledge is Nectar’ is written on the border at the top and the border at the bottom holds its name in Devanagari. The vihara denotes the Bodh Gaya where Lord Buddha attained realisation and the lotus denotes purity, enlightenment, rebirth, transformation, personal growth, resilience, overcoming obstacles and divine beauty. The Bodhi or peepal tree is the official tree and forms the State Emblem of Bihar and the wheels denote the wheel of Dharma.
