BENNETT UNIVERSITY

Bennett University (BU) was established under Uttar Pradesh Act No. 24 of 2016. This was published through Gazette notification No 1402(2)/LXXIX-V- 1-16- 1(Ka)- 25-2016 dated September 16, 2016 of the Government of Uttar Pradesh in Greater Noida. The emblem of the university in the tones of red and blue is adapted from its promoter the Times of India group. It has a red shield with a pair of elephants facing each other with their trunks raised in silhouette and supported by two strokes of blue tones. The negative space between elephants forms a dome of a temple. At its right the name of the university is written in blue serif bold font and its promoter’s name in red. The shield represents strength, credibility and timelessness; the pair of elephants symbolise seeking knowledge with renewed energy, protection and prowess; the dome represents the temple of knowledge; the colour red denotes passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration and the colour blue serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.

SAMBALPUR UNIVERSITY The Sambalpur University Act was passed by the Odisha Legislature on December 10, 1966 and the University started functioning from January 1, 1967. The university was inaugurated on January 4, 1967. In 1973 the University was shifted to the present campus named Jyoti Vihar at Burla. The emblem of the university has the motifs of gear wheels, chimney and electric transmission tower representing industry; plough representing agriculture; deer representing the local wildlife; an open book denoting knowledge and wisdom; a torch symbolising light, truth and power; the Wheel of Konark symbolising Odisha’s culture and history and river symbolising Mahanadi. All these are ensconced by a circular border and along the border the name of the university is written. The motto of the university in Sanskrit ‘विद्यया विन्दतेऽमृतम्’ (Verse 4 II, Kena Upanishad) meaning ‘By Self-knowledge Immortality is Attained’ is written at the bottom of the emblem.
