Bhagwan Mahavir University was established in exercise of the powers conferred by the Sub Section (2) of Section I of The Gujarat Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Gujarat Act No. 19 of 20 I9) on September 25, 2019 notification by the Government of Gujarat. The emblem of the university is a shield in blue colour with a burning orange outline. The shield holds the motifs of a smaller shield housing an open book surmounted by a torch and a pair of laurels and the acronym of its name and its motto in Sanskrit ‘तमसो मा ज्योतिर्गमय’ (Yajnavalkya, 1.3.28, Pavamana Mantra, Brihadaranyaka Upanishad) meaning ‘From Darkness Lead me to Light’ is written above the motifs. The shield symbolises protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the laurels symbolise ceremonies, victory, achievement, hard work and dedication; the open book denotes knowledge, wisdom and education; the torch is an emblem of enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; the colour blue signifies serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty and the colour burning orange signifies autumn, evoking a feeling of warmth and comfort.
