Maharashtra Institute of Technology University of Meghalaya (MITUM) or MIT University, Shillong was established under the Meghalaya Act No. 3 of 2011, legislated by the Meghalaya Assembly and approved by Section 2(f) of UGC Act. The emblem of the university is a wordmark created using orange and black, in which ‘mit’ is written in lowercase sans serif font in black with the dot on the ‘i’ in orange. Below this ‘ University’ is written in orange and ‘Shillong’ is written in black. The colour orange symbolises energy, vitality, creativity, inspiration, joy and happiness and the colour black denotes mystery, power, elegance and sophistication.
