William Carey University (WCU) was established through the Gazette of Meghalaya in Shillong. William Carey, whose name this university is named after, was an English missionary who is known as ‘Father of Modern Mission’ work in India. The emblem of the university has an open book supporting a gear and a flower with three petals in green, red and blue. The name of the university surmounts these motifs as an arc. The open book symbolises education, knowledge and wisdom, gear symbolises interconnectedness, efficiency, precision, progress, advancement, synchronisation, timing, order and structure; the flower symbolises purity and loveliness; the colour green symbolises; the colour red denotes passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration and the colour blue signifies serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty.
