Patliputra University, Patna was founded on March 18, 2018, by the Government of Bihar through Letter/memo No. 15/M1-71/2016-700, dated April 9, 2018. All of the colleges in Patna and Nalanda districts of Bihar. The emblem of the university has a shield with bold red border housing the monogram of the acronym of its name on the background of the ruins of ancient Nalanda University with the lion Pillar of Mauryan era in the bottom foreground. At the bottom of the shield the university’s year of establishment is placed. On a blue banner, above the shield its motto in Sanskrit ‘योगः कर्मसु कौशलम्’ (Verse 50, Chapter 2, Bhagavad Gita) meaning ‘Yoga is Skill in Action’ is inscribed. The name of the university is written on a blue rectangle plaque in Devanagari and English below all these. The shield symbolises protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery; the lion pillar depicts the rich and veritable history of Bihar’s education, culture and arts; the pillars are the bridge to heaven from earth and pillar means strength, security of foundation and trustworthiness; the colour blue denotes serenity, calmness, trust, spirituality, calmness, wisdom, freedom, openness, intelligence and loyalty and the colour red denotes passion, power, strength, courage, determination, energy and celebration.
