ICAR-INDIAN INSTITUTE OF AGRICULTURAL BIOTECHNOLOGY The circular emblem of ICAR-Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology (IIAB) has an open book in green colour supporting a blue motif of cattle from which an orange flame and helical DNA chain is emanating. Below these motifs the acronym of the Institute in Devanagari and English. These are ensconced by its name in Devanagari and English. The tricolour denotes the nation; the flame denotes enlightenment, hope, life, truth and the regenerative power; the open book denotes education, knowledge, learning and wisdom and the cattle and DNA chain represent the nature and scope of research carried out by the institution.

RAJIV GANDHI CENTRE FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY The Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) is located in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, RGCB began in 1990 as a charitable society called the Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (C-DEST). In 1991, recognizing its potential, the C-DEST was made a ‘Grant-in-Aid’ institute of the Government of Kerala and renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Development of Education, Science and Technology (RGC-DEST), becoming the first institute in the country to be named after Sri Rajiv Gandhi. On April 18, 1994 the Government of Kerala restructured the institute into a comprehensive biotechnology centre and it became Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology. The institute was first managed by the Government of Kerala's Committee for Science and Technology and Environment (STEC) and subsequently by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment.
