COCHIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY The emblem of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUST) features a rising sun and coconut palm, which represent the birth of a new centre of learning in Kerala. The book represents learning, the factory represents its application and the transmission tower represents its dissemination. The motto in Malayalam ‘തെജസ്വി നാവധിതമസ്തു’ (Shanti Mantra, Katha Upanishad) meaning ‘May the wisdom accrued deify us both – the teacher and the taught - and percolate to the universe in its totality’ is written on the circular border and on the platform supporting the logo has its name inscribed on it.

PATNA UNIVERSITY

PATNA UNIVERSITY Patna University is the seventh oldest university in India and the first in Bihar. It was founded on October 1, 1917, by an Act of the Legislature. Its jurisdiction initially covered Bihar, Orissa, and Nepal. The Patna University Act, 1951, was passed on July 6, 1951, to establish a teaching and residential university at Patna. The insignia of the university has a shield divided into four parts with each part housing a motif. The motifs are a tree, an open book with ‘प्रज्ञा’ meaning ‘Wisdom’ written on it, a dam of water and a tree and flowing waters. The tree denotes strength, individuality and expression, calmness, growth and the interconnectedness of everything; the open book denotes knowledge, wisdom and education; the dam of water may represent the Mahatma Gandhi Setu and the flowing waters represent the River Ganga. The shield symbolises protection, courage, heritage, authority and bravery. Below the shield, on a banner its motto in Sanskrit ‘सत्यं त्वेव

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY PATNA Indian Institute of Technology Patna (IITP) is one of the new IITs established by an Act of the Indian Parliament on August 6, 2008. Patna which was known as Patliputra has been a centre of knowledge since long has been attracting visitors and scholars from many parts of the world such as China, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, among others. The logo has a gear wheel signifying technology. The logo incorporates the 'Shrivasta' symbol, thereby establishing a connection with Buddhism that originated from Bihar. The book symbolises that the Institute is going to be a seat of learning. The Greek symbol 'Pi' (π) is used abundantly in science and technology literature. The concept of numeric character zero ( 0 ) was known by Aryabhatta (place-value system) and hence has been aptly incorporated in IIT Patna logo. The saffron and the green bands of this logo represent the colours of the Indian flag. Blue colour has
